Nota d'uso
I sostantivi street, road e way possiedono il significato comune di “strada”, ma vengono utilizzati in contesti diversi. Quando si vuole enfatizzare la presenza di persone, abitazioni e negozi si preferisce usare street, che significa anche “via”: It's a very busy shopping street, è una strada (via) di negozi molto frequentata. Road indica una strada più grande, di solito carrozzabile, che conduce a un determinato punto: The road was full of traffic, la strada era piena di traffico. Way si riferisce invece al tragitto da compiere: Which is the quickest way to the town from here?, qual è la strada più breve per la città da qui?
